In the evening (9th of may) the workers who were excavating the tree came running back to town saying they had broke through the ground into a hole. One had fallen in and four had died from something rushing out of the hole on wings.
A group of soldiers were sent out, accompanied by the master of coins, baroness and the master of arms. Upon reaching the hole no bodies were found. Drag marks from the 4 bodies were leading off in 4 different directions. The leaders of the town along with some soldiers followed one of the drag marks, a group of soldiers followed another one and the rest of the group fortified the area around the hole; building fires and such.
Whilst tracking the drag marks a scream was heard in the direction of the hole and the group ran back. On the way back a shadow was seen running from the hole. The Baroness charged after it and tried to run it down. It was a gaunt lizardman with glowy eyes. Instead of it being tripped over it dealt huge damage to her rending her side with it claws. Then it ran away. Upon reaching the hole two bodies were found. They were two of the peasant spearmen.
Deciding that it was the shadowy lizardman who had done it and then ran away the group decided to explore the first part of the cave.
It wasn’t a cave but a big room hewn from the rock beneath. There was an open sarcophagus in them middle of it that was open, a locked chest at the head of the sarcophagus, a ditch with bones around the room where tree roots had wrapped around the bones and started to dissolve some of them and a bridge leading to a magical looking door.
The chest was brought up and everyone went back to the village.
The next day (10th of may) there were festivities and joy during the festival except for a dwarf who had lost his wife who had just disappeared one night. A look into that was promised. Eneas wounds weren’t closing properly so the leader of the makerite delegation was brought to identify the wounds. It was made from a higher undead and would take special care to treat.
The day after (11th of may) the festivities the council went to the strange chamber under the Skeleton Tree to explore it thoroughly. The bones in the ditch around the chamber were burned along with the tree roots sticking down there. After this Thorgrim wrestled the door opened and the frame glowed blue when he stepped through. On the other side of the door a long passage was found with carvings depicting a war between humans and lizardmen. And at the end of the passage was a blocked door outside.
When returning to town a mob of villagers were found to have driven a trade ship away since it was swindling them. The townspeople got back all its gold and the crates of goods that were used in the con was confiscated.
On the 13th the council decides to look for the dwarven woman that had just wandered off. The tracks lead them to the north of the river and the group spent an uneventful day searching. The next day a nest of giant bombardier beetles were fought and killed. They squirted their juices all over Enea and Harald
